[en] The determination of general structure of URL for HLW is a key point in the process of engineering design. In this article, the influence factors such as the categorization of URL, functional requirements, decision of the depth, property right of the ground, topographic conditions, geology conditions, excavation technologies, operation safety, long-term safety, license application, environmental impacts, construction schedule and cost of the engineering to the design of the general structure have been discussed and analyzed. Some suggestions have also been given out, in order to provide a reference about the design of general plan of URL in China. (authors)
