AbstractAbstract
[en] La2Mo2O9 is relatively new oxide ion conductor which exhibits ionic conductivity comparable to the conductivity of YSZ (at 1000 °C) at relatively lower temperature (at 800 °C). Conventional solid state reaction synthesis is an easy technique for synthesis of compounds but is difficult to obtain single phase without impurities in this material. In order to address this issue, we have synthesized La2Mo2O9 via solution combustion technique in the present work. The specimen was characterized by XRD, SEM, DSC and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy. Lattice parameters have been calculated by using Reiteveld technique. The detailed XRD pattern indicates the formation of single phase compound even at a lower calcination temperature (700 °C) with no trace of impurity. Arrhenius plot indicates phase transition of the specimen between 500 °C and 560 °C which is in conformity with the DSC result. The onset and completion point of the phase transition temperature are at relatively lower temperature as compared to compound synthesized by solid state technique which may be due to starting particle size in nano range. Ionic conductivity of the compound found to be 1.5 x 10-2 Scm-1 at 700 °C. Thus, solution combustion technique is a reliable technique of synthesis of impurity free family of La2Mo2O9 compounds.
