AbstractAbstract
[en] Ferroelectric materials show various important properties due to the finite gap between the positive and negative charge centers. For example, a well known ferroelectric material PbTiO3 shows negative thermal expansion in a wide temperature region of 298 - 763 K. The origin of negative thermal expansion in PbTiO3 material is well known and is stemmed in the tetragonality of the compound's crystal structure. The low temperature phase of the compound is tetragonal and the high temperature phase is cubic one. During the transformation from tetragonal to cubic, the unit cell volume of the compound decreases. We have substituted both in the Pb site and Ti site to reduce the tetragonality of the compound. We have prepared 0.8PbTiO3 – 0.2Nd0.6Sr0.4MnO3 (will be referred as PT-N later) by solid state reaction method. Temperature dependent X-ray diffraction data from 13 – 880 K shows a structural transformation at 420 K. Till 420 K, the material behaves as a ferroelectric material, at higher temperature at behaves as a paraelectric material. From 13-420 K, the ceramic compound shows near zero thermal expansion with linear thermal expansion co-efficient 5.001×10-6K-1 (author)
