AbstractAbstract
[en] European nuclear power plant operators are considering extending the operating to 60 years and beyond. Although originally designed to function and produce power for 30-40 years, governments and operators alike are seeking to extend the life of these nuclear power plants in a safe and cost-effective manner. Until recently however, such a process has been a laborious one, relying upon archived, hand drawn sketches and non-computerised methods of work. The paper shall propose a solution, a means to analyse and execute safe, cost-effective life extension projects of operating Nuclear Power Plants [NPP]. The combination of Plant Life Management [PLM] and innovative digital technology empower the regulator, operator and sub-contractor to safely authorise, instruct and execute the required works. By using a “Data-Centric Approach” [DCA] – the use of one, unique, data set by the various stakeholders for the entire NPP life extension project – this paper shall demonstrate the notable advantages of a carefully executed digital approach with respect to modification and configuration management.
