[en] Diametrical compression tests on directly cooled compacts were done by the Dragon Project (acknowledgment to Messrs F Ridealgh and A Cowlishaw), Compacts No 1 to 7 were crushed in the AEE Winfrith Hot Cells A59, compacts No 8 to 12 in Lab 7 at B44 by two equipments of exactly the same arrangements. Compacts No 2 to 5 were irradiated in DE-S2 for 3 cycles. The results are given in Table 1 from which it can be seen that the U.T.S, has increased during irradiation which is accompanied by an increase of Young’s modulus too.
