[en] After a presentation of the objectives, mission, organisation, R and D domains and budget of the French GRTgaz research centre (RICE) and a very synthetic presentation of its research and innovation approach (to promote participative innovation, to accelerate innovative projects with a high potential, to valorise and accelerate internal innovations, to support exploration and design phases with a design approach, and to develop open innovation), this activity report proposes indications of highlights which occurred during 2020. Then focuses are proposed on different activity orientations and on their more specific works. These activities are: to guarantee the network industrial safety (safe gas piping, knowledge development regarding accidents, protection of installations against corrosion and control of the network condition), to face the energy transition challenges (infrastructure optimisation, development of production processes for new methanes, safety in presence of hydrogen, quality maintenance for the piping mission, development of more environment-friendly technologies of gas usages and decarbonization of industries, to make networks more connected, more communicating and smarter, scenarios of prediction of future demand and costs, prospective studies), focus on operational performance (management, planning, network sizing and adaptation, simulations, optimisation, reduction of methane emissions, development and optimisation of network control systems, optimisation of work costs)
