AbstractAbstract
[en] The core of the He cooled, graphite moderated High Temperature Reactor AVR consists of 100,000 spherical fuel elements (pebbles) containing pyrocarbon coated particles in a graphite matrix. The pebble bed is cycled continuously. The coolant gas enters at 270°C from the bottom and is heated up to 950°C. The maximum fuel element surface temperatures is 1075°C, maximum fuel temperature is 1130°C.
