[en] At one time little disclosed and even sensitive information, companies' climate impact is now becoming increasingly measured, assessed and compared by third parties. The CDP, a non-profit organization based in the United Kingdom, has positioned itself as the leading body seeking to facilitate companies' transparency and performance when it comes to reducing their environmental impacts. Indeed, for several years now major international companies have voluntarily responded to the CDP questionnaire, composed of fifteen sections concerning businesses' climate strategies, their commitments, the evaluation of their CO2 emissions, etc. In 2016, the CDP questionnaire underwent major changes and a special process was introduced to define an A List, which names the most advanced companies when it comes to the climate according to CDP. Following the publication of the 2017 questionnaire and guidance by the latter, Carbone 4 decided to analyze the 2016 CDP A List in order to: understand the specificities and singularities of these companies compared to other players in their sectors; identify the current prerequisites for inclusion on this A List analyze what aspects we can expect to see from CDP in the future. This analysis which is the subject of our publication, concerns companies located in Germany, France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom who were named on the A List in 2016. This represents a total of 46 companies operating in various sectors: automotive industry, ICT, finance, mass-market retail, energy, etc

Autrefois information peu divulguee voire sensible, l'impact climat des entreprises tend aujourd'hui a etre de plus en plus mesure, apprecie et compare par des tierce-parties. Le CDP, organisation a but non lucratif basee au Royaume-Uni, se positionne comme l'instance cherchant a faciliter la transparence et la performance des entreprises vis-a-vis de la reduction de leurs impacts environnementaux. Depuis plusieurs annees en effet, les grandes entreprises internationales repondent de facon volontaire au questionnaire du CDP, qui se compose de quinze sections relatives a la strategie climat des entreprises, a leurs engagements, a l'evaluation de leurs emissions de CO2, etc. En 2016, le questionnaire du CDP a fait l'objet de revisions majeures et un processus special a ete mis en place pour definir la A-List, qui designe les entreprises les plus avancees en matiere climatique selon le CDP. Alors que ce dernier a recemment publie le questionnaire et guidance 2017, Carbone 4 a souhaite analyser la A-List 2016 du CDP afin de: comprendre les specificites et singularites de ces entreprises par rapport aux acteurs de leurs secteurs; identifier aujourd'hui les prerequis pour integrer cette A-list; analyser les evolutions du CDP que l'on peut attendre dans le futur. Cette analyse qui fait l'objet de notre publication, porte sur les entreprises situees en Allemagne, France, Pays-Bas et Royaume- Uni, et faisant partie de la A-List en 2016.
