AbstractAbstract
[en] The effect of neutral currents on the evolution of a star of 0.9192 solar masses is investigated. It is found that under the Weinberg-Salam description of neutral current interactions, the increased energy loss by neutrinos delays the onset of the helium flash by 0.59 x 106 yr. The core mass at the onset of helium flash is changed from 0.4576 to 0.4614 solar masses. However, a more significant change occurs in the temperature distribution inside the core: the peak of the temperature distribution shifts from 0.1504 to 0.1929 solar masses. Thus the helium flash is triggered further away from the centre than in the conventional formalism. The possible significance of this effect on mixing between the core and the envelope of the star is mentioned. (author)
