AbstractAbstract
[en] It is stated that the recurrent nova TCrB is regarded as anomalous amongst cataclysmic variables, and is a binary system consisting of an M3 III giant and a blue companion. The behaviour of TCrB is here interpreted in terms of accretion in a binary system. Reference is made to two outbursts, observed in 1866 and 1946; in both cases there was evidence suggesting that the initial rise was very rapid. The light curves for the interval immediately surrounding the 1946 outburst are shown and their features discussed. The system remained within one magnitude of maximum for about three days and the decline was very rapid. Secondary maxima were also observed. An extremely prolonged decline ultimately occurred down to the present light level. (U.K.)
