AbstractAbstract
[en] Boron NMR has been used to obtain rather detailed information about glass structure. Some of these results may be of value in better understanding certain optical waveguide materials provided the information is reliable. In general a boron NMR experiment provides a distribution function for the quadrupole coupling constant psi(Q). This is then compared with theoretical calculations of psi(Q) based upon a model. Recent work has improved the theory considerably. It is the purpose of this note to calculate the error (i.e. noise) on psi(Q) as obtained from a boron NMR experiment and thus provide a method by which a particular experimental distribution can be appraised.
