AbstractAbstract
[en] The equipment for measuring the Faraday effect and for magneto-optical studies of small magnetization fields in magnetic films at temperatures 4.2-300 deg K is described, and the results of a feasibility study on the application of E and O films in memory devices with a thermomagneto-optical principle of recording are given. To measure the Faraday rotation in E and O films, single-beam and double-beam methods have been tested and the following results obtained for E and O films at 20 deg K: the double angle of Faraday rotation at saturation-2phisub(sat.)=4.0-5.0 deg; the double angle of residual rotation-2phisub(res.)=0.6-0.82.2phisub(sat.); the coercivity of films with qlass backing Hsub(c)=60sub(e). The studies have shown that E and O films have a high reading efficiencY and a low energy density when recording is made by dots, which makes them promising for use as a memorizing medium for reversive optical memory with semiconductor lasers
