AbstractAbstract
[en] Principal publications over the last 20 years or so on the topics of swelling and gas release in U, U02, U3Si, UC, and UN are briefly described. Some items are still controversial, i.e. intragranular effects, grain-boundary effects, and interactions. It should not be supposed that one mechanism is 'right' while the other is 'wrong', but that, dependent on conditions, one or other may be dominant in any given case. If these conditions could be quantitatively defined, an increase in the realism of the models could be expected. (author)
