AbstractAbstract
[en] γ radiography equipment failures which have caused excessive radiation exposures and thus been the subject of reports to H.M. Factory Inspectorate have been reviewed. It is reported that almost half of the incidents in the years 1969 to 1974 refer to equipment in which the source is manually extracted (Torch containers). Spatial dose distributions obtained as the source is removed from a Torch container are given and an improved design suggested. It is concluded that containers give adequate protection in the closed position but that radiographers are not adequately protected during actual use of the source. Certain recommendations are listed. (U.K.)
