AbstractAbstract
[en] The nuclear reactions involving 65-MeV 3He ions and 35-MeV 2H ions incident on the 3He target were studied by using two-parameter coincidence techniques. The cross sections were measured at angle pairs where several quasi-free scattering (QFS) and quasi-free reaction (QFR) processes should show a large contribution to the cross section. The data were analyzed by using the plane-wave impulse approximation (PWIA) to predict the cross section for the quasi-free processes, and Breit--Wigner line shapes were used to understand sequential decay states in the A = 4 and A = 5 systems. The observed states of 4He and 5Li are consistent with known states, but evidence for new states in 4Li was obtained. The PWIA predicts the shape of the quasi-free peaks, but overestimates their magnitude. The results of quasi-free data from here and many other sources were combined, and a relationship between the multiplicative factor required to bring the PWIA into agreement with experiment and the relative velocity of the interacting particles was obtained. This suggests that the reduction of the cross section from the PWIA value is primarily a reaction time effect
