AbstractAbstract
[en] This paper reviews two features of anomalous rare-earth (Ce, Sm, Yb, ...) metals, alloys or compounds: first, the influence of the crystalline field on the Kondo effect in systems such as CeAl3 or AuYb and second, the valence changes or the magnetic-nonmagnetic transitions occurring in cerium metal, SmS or LaCe under pressure. The low temperature nonmagnetic behaviour of Ce and Yb compounds is presented, and the relative validity of the ionic and virtual bound states models is discussed
