AbstractAbstract
[en] DNA of gamma-irradiated E.coli cells contains singlestranded breaks with 5'Oh, 5'PO4 and 3'OH ends assayed by phosphatase, polynucleotide kinase and DNA-ligase reactions. The number of breaks with 5'OH ends corresponds to the breaks detected by DNA sedimentation in alkaline sucrose gradient. The relative amount of breaks with different ends varies with the dose of irradiation. The majority of single-stranded breaks with 5'PO4 and 3'OH ends in sealed by ligase
