AbstractAbstract
[en] Increase in the rate of soil applied Zn(0.10, and 25 ppm) progressively reduced the dry matter yield and uptake of P in wheat plants grown in a pot culture experiment. Sodium humate (0.3 mg/pot) seems to ameliorate Zn induced P deficiency as there is a strong possibility that formation of zinc humate complex in plants may have prevented Zn to interfere in translocation and/or utilization of P. In no sodium humate treatment, P uptake from soil and percent P utilization from fertilizer decreased with increase in Zn rate; however, when sodium humate was applied, P uptake from soil increased while percent P utilization from fertilizer decreased. Autoradiographs of plants at 60 days growth stage from 10 and 25 ppm Zn treatments showed depletion of P in older leaves and roots as compared to that of control plants. When Zn may have blocked the entry of P into the roots, P was mobilised from older leaves and roots to the growing parts. This indicates that seat of P-Zn interaction seems to be located at root surface. (author)
