AbstractAbstract
[en] The fraction C/sub F/ of atoms in the ground state of liquid 4He is calculated for a fluid density of 0.023 atom/A3 at various values of temperature and a good fit is found with the law C/sub F/(T) = C/sub F/(0)[1 - (T/T/sub lambda/)3], where T/sub lambda/ is the transition temperature; this law gives C/sub F/ = 2.3 percent at T = 1.2 K, which agrees with the result of a recent high-energy neutron diffraction experiment. It is shown that future experiments in the temperature range 1.8 K equal to or less than T equal to or less than T/sub lambda/ with a statistical error of 1 percent or larger will not detect the condensate. A single experiment is suggested to differentiate between this work and an ODLRO type of theory
