AbstractAbstract
[en] The research work involved the measurement, analysis and interpretation of high resolution neutron total and partial cross sections in the neutron energy range of few eV to few hundred keV. Some of these measurements (V, Mn, Co) were performed with the Columbia University's neutron velocity selector and the measurements on separated isotopes of iron, copper, zinc and yttrium were performed with the Oak Ridge electron linear accelerator. By using area and R-matrix shape analysis, the data were analyzed to extract the values of resonance parameters such as resonance energies (E0), neutron widths (GAMMA/sub n/), capture widths (GAMMA/sub gamma/), l-assignment and the average values of these parameters. The systematics of these results were also investigated in detail. The complete results of the measurements of total cross sections, in the nuclei 209Bi, Cu (natural), 63Cu, 65Cu, 54Fe and 56Fe, have been published. The analysis of the total cross section data on Mn, V, Co has been completed and a paper will be submitted for publication. The analysis of the data on 57Fe, 58Fe and isotopes of zinc are in the various stages of completion. The total capture cross section results on 63Cu and 65Cu were completed and have been submitted for publication. The results on 55Mn are being completed. A collaborative research work on (n,γ) capture studies with Brookhaven scientists on the separated isotopes of 168Er was completed and published in Phys. Rev. and the results on 170Er are in the process of being completed
