[en] The local mode of hydrogen impurities in a single crystal of palladium was studied as a function of concentration, temperature and momentum transfer for the [100]- and [110] direction by neutron inelastic scattering experiments. The first harmonic of the local mode appears at Esub(1)sup(H)=(68.5+-2)meV and after an extended annealing procedure its width is instrumental for PdHsub(0.002) at T=77⁰K. For higher concentrations the width is increasing due to the formation of clusters of hydrogen atoms even in the α-phase. The local mode intensity is 10 times lower in the [110]- than in the [100]-direction, which supports the assumption of an anharmonic periodic potential along the [110]-direction
