AbstractAbstract
[en] The cryogenic electron beam ion source ''KRION-2'' was developed for a further investigation of electron impact positive ion ionization in the high density electron beam (up to 1000 A/cm2). Use was made of only the magnetic compression for formation of such dense electron beams. The ionization factor (product of the electron flux density in the beam and time of interaction with ions) more than 1020 cm-2 was achieved experimentally. The beams of carbon, nitrogen and neon nuclei and Ar+16 ions were obtained in the preliminary experiments on ''KRION-2''. The electron beam of about 200 A/cm2 density was used in these experiments. Technical parameters of ''KRION-2'' provide a possibility to ionize K-shell electrons of Argon at this time
