[en] The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is responsible for assuring that commercial nuclear powerplants have adequate security systems to protect against sabotage. Successful sabotage could present a significant hazard. The Commission's failure to define the level of threat to protect against and to establish specific requirements have allowed inconsistencies in security systems from plant to plant. GAO and the Commission believe the resulting array of security systems is inadequate. Moreover, the guard forces at these powerplants were generally ineffective and inefficient. The implementation of recently adopted security regulations should improve nuclear powerplant security
