AbstractAbstract
[en] Progress is reported on studies of processes controlling the distribution of 55Fe in the Columbia River ecosystem and in the Pacific Ocean. Iron-55 was found to be a unique tracer for particulate setting in the ocean. Data are included on the content of 55Fe in Columbia River sediments and in samples of seawater and marine organisms collected at various depths from locations in the South Pacific Ocean. The highest concentrations were found in crustaceans and fishes from the mesopelogic and epipelozic zones. A biological model of 55Fe distribution in fish was developed based on measurements of 55Fe and 65Zn in carp caught in the Columbia River
