AbstractAbstract
[en] The acceleration of large amounts of protons to several hundred MeV by adiabatic magnetic compression of low-energy ion rings are discussed. This method is to be used in the Ion Ring Compressor approach to thermonuclear fusion. Results from present experimental and theoretical investigations and estimates indicate good overall chances for a technical and economic feasibility of such a system. The method of acceleration might be used to generate efficiently the rather large amounts of several hundred MeV hydrogen ions that will be needed in any economically significant electronuclear breeding scheme
