[en] The spectra of fast produced hadrons at low p (perpendicular) are discussed within the context of the parton model. Several specific models are critically considered from the experimental and theoretical point of view. Attention is focussed on the quark recombination model and improvements are suggested to overcome its problems; in particular the concept of a chameleon quark is introduced. Contamination of pseudoscalar fragments of the proton by vector meson decay is shown to be small for x > approximately 0.5. Predictions for polarised pp scattering are made. (author)
