[en] A meeting was conducted to review the recent progress and present status of rock mechanics programs being supported by the Office of Waste Isolation (and Sandia Laboratories), and to delineate, evaluate, and expand, if necessary, the goals and objectives of these programs. Papers were presented on rock mechanics aspects of radioactive waste disposal properties of rock salt, elevated temperature deformation of dome salt, viscoplastic behavior of salt, models of radioactive waste disposal sites, waste cannister emplacement, thermal stress calculations, analysis of underground disposal rooms, and salt dome in situ experiments
