[en] This article shows the use and utilization of geothermal energy. This calorific energy can be used, through the wells perforation, in generation of electricity and many other tasks. [en] With base in the compilation and prosecution of the geologic information and available geophysics in the Departments of Cordoba, Sucre, Bolivar, Atlantic and Magdalena and of the analysis of the results obtained for samples of thermal waters, the possible existence of attractive reas; geothermically was evaluated by the light of the main constituent elements of a geothermal field: Source of heat. Reservoir. Waterproof covering. Recharge area. The absence of recent volcanic manifestations as much in surface as to shallow depths, the nonexistence of a source of heat of economic interest is suggested. The presence of thermal manifestations in 3 towns of the Atlantic Costa shows results of the chemical analyses characterized by the drop silica concentration (92 ppm) and high concentration of bicarbonates (504 ppm) that which identifies to waters of low temperature, what reinforces the nonexistence of a source of significant heat. With the current information it is but attractiveness to focus the investigations in the Atlantic Costa toward the use in other such energy ways as the lot, eolic, biomass, Ph; that toward the use of endogenous fluids. It is included information related with the exploration and exploitation of a geothermal field and with the economic evaluation for geothermal plants of several capacities. [en] Neurocysticercosis is the most common cerebral parasitosis. Of the three forms in which it can present itself, intraventricular cysticercosis is the least common and has the poorest prognosis. Diagnosis is principally made through the use of neuroimaging methods, especially MR, which is also indispensable both as a preoperative control and in the choice and response evaluation of postoperative treatment. We present the case of a 24-year-old Ecuadoran woman with clinical intracraneal hypertension due to a cysticercus cyst in the third ventricle. [en] The objective of this work is to study the variability in the contouring of the heart by our TERT and compare with the contouring done by a radiologist specialist as well as influence in the dosimetry of the organ of risk and its influence in the decision-making process in accepting a planning. [en] Determine the value of the water enema CT technique as a diagnostic method in the local staging of colorectal carcinoma using the anatomopathological study of the surgical pieces as reference method. A total of 58 cases diagnosed of colorectal carcinoma by biopsy and staged by water enema CT and intravenous contrast have been reviewed. All the cases were classified into one of the following groups. T1-T2, T3 and T4. the anatomopathology study of the local staging was performed in all the cases and was considered the gold standard only referring to the local growth of the tumor (T). Two groups are presented: T1-T2 compared to T3 and T4 that show the efficacy to differentiate early stages from advanced ones, the results of this group being the following: sensitivity 88.46%, specificity =75%, positive predictive value results=95.83%, negative predictive value result=60%. The second group was made up by the T1-T2 and T3 compared to T4, to differentiate the early and advanced stages from the non-resectable ones. The parameters in this group are: sensitivity=100%, specificity=98.14%, positive predictive value result=80%, negative predictive value result=100%. (Author) 15 refs
[en] Classic Kaposi sarcoma presents as asymptomatic red-violaceus plaques, usually on the legs below the knees, ankles and soles preferentially. When the disease is spread on the skin preferential treatment is radiation therapy at low doses. Homogeneous irradiation of the various lesions could be very complex due to the irregular geometry of the feet, interdigital lesions on different planes. To overcome this problem, and in the case of disseminated disease and low doses, we propose the technique of dipping the tip in Cuba expanded polystyrene filled with saline with a methacrylate plate 2 cm in depth and irradiation with parallel opposed fields.
[en] The objective of this work is to obtain quantifiable data of whole body effective dose for photons fields of 6 MV and 18 MV in function of the collimator angle of a Varian Clinac 21EX lineal accelerator. It has been made a variety of studies which investigate the form to reduce the dose in whole body with photons fields, specially over the potential risks and the influence of the collimator angle, as performed Stanthakis et al.  with the Monte Carlo method. As a result of this work, the values of whole body effective doses are higher with a 0 deg collimator than with a 90 deg collimator, and as the field size increases, the effective doses difference in whole body, between 0 deg and 90 deg collimator angle, for both energies, becomes smaller.
