AbstractAbstract
[en] While the neutron scattering community is bombarded with hints of new technologies that may deliver detectors with high-count-rate capability, high efficiency, gamma-ray insensitivity, and high resolution across large areas, only the time-tested, gas-filled 3He and scintillation detectors are in widespread use. Future spallation sources with higher fluxes simply must exploit some of the advanced detector schemes that are as yet unproved as production systems. Technologies indicating promise as neutron detectors include pixel arrays of amorphous silicon, silicon microstrips, microstrips with gas, and new scintillation materials. This project sought to study the competing neutron detector technologies and determine which or what combination will lead to a production detector system well suited for use at a high-intensity neutron scattering source

AbstractAbstract
[en] Engineering students answers wich show difficulties to explain , in very simple optical systems, the relationships between. a) perceived image and the curvature of the wavefront reaching the eye. b) optical system dimensions and the regions from wich complete image can be observed, are analyzed. Possible reasons for these difficulties are considered. The inclusion of the observer eye as well as an elemental model for vision when optical systems are studied is suggested. (Author) 16 refs

[en] A part of investigations of world nuclear community are intended to establish each time the more high safety levels and, simultaneously, improve economy in operating nuclear power plants. In modeling of nuclear systems has given rise to new trends, some of them begins to report benefits. Because of this reasons, the Nuclear Energy Department (DEN) of Electric Research Institute (IIE) develops an infrastructure to provide to Electricity Federal Commission (CFE) with new products to support operation and safety of Laguna Verde nuclear power plant (Author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Physical and mathematical modelling techniques were used to study the molten steel flow behaviour in a multi-stand bloom tundish. Three different cases were studied: a bare tundish (BT), a tundish equipped with two pairs of baffles and a waved impact pad (BWIP) and a tundish equipped with a turbulence inhibitor and a pair dams (TI and D).Chemical mixing of tracer turbulence diffusion was also simulated and compared with experimental results. The TI and D arrangement showed a better tracer distribution among the outlets and an improvement of the fluid flow characteristics yielding lower values of back mixing flow and a good relation of mixed and plug volume flows. The mass transfer model coupled with theκ-ε turbulence model predicted acceptably well the experimental chemical mixing of the tracer in the water model. (Author) 26 refs

AbstractAbstract
[en] High-electronic-quality thin films of mercuric iodide have been deposited on SnO2 and other transparent contacts. The crystallites exhibit some preference for c-axis orientation and have lengths comparable to the overall film thickness of 200-400 μm. With visible photons of 584 nm, quantum efficiencies up to 0.5 are observed at an applied voltage of 50 V. AMPS(c), a first-principles simulation code, is used to model device performance. Characterization is complicated by complex electric field profiles. Using representative values for fundamental parameters, current-voltage and quantum efficiency spectral response plots are generated that are in agreement with experimental results from single-crystal reference devices. Comparisons with thin-film devices suggest that relatively small reductions in the values of carrier transport parameters result from the thin-film growth process

AbstractAbstract
[en] The associated Instrumentation & Control of the Research Nuclear Reactor IAN-R1, located in Colombia, was updated on the year 2012, as a direct result of the initiative by the Colombian Government represented by the Colombian Geological Survey (Servicio Geológico Colombiano). The result of the conversion from Highly-enriched MTR Nuclear fuel into Low-enrichment TRIGA Nuclear fuel guarantees a nuclear reactor that can be operated for several years. The present document presents the Current Technical Status (status of available infrastructure and utilization capabilities, including staff) of the reactor, its success stories, major achievements, and future prospects. AbstractAbstract
[en] With the objective of using it as fuel cell, a Mg25AI alloy of porous morphology was obtained. The material it was hydrogenates at 200 C by different time. It was analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscopy SEM and X-ray diffraction, XRD. Those XRD diffractographs present peaks run toward the origin, that which indicates a volume increase of the unitary cell by effect of the hydrogen absorption. (Author)
