[en] Regions on the sun with higher than average magnetic field strength are known to be associated with apparent downdrafts. Asymmetries in the Stokes V line profiles are related to the apparent doppler shifts in observing systems which measure the spectrum in a pair of pass-bands centered on the spectral line. These shifts can contaminate the observed solar velocity and interfere with the detection of low amplitude, long period oscillations. We describe here a method which will allow the calibration of the magnetically induced velocities and permit an improvement of the information from various planned solar oscillation experiments. Based on the differential sensitivity to the magnetic effects of various spectral lines we derive a correction function giving the doppler shift in each line as a function of the difference between shifts of the lines
[en] Highlights: • Baseline PAH data was obtained for Scottish deepwater environments. • PAH concentrations in fish and sediment were low and typical of reference sites. • A higher proportion of 4- to 6-ring PAHs were found in the sponges compared to fish. • Sponges may be useful as an indicator species for monitoring PAHs. - Abstract: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were measured in environmental samples (sponges, fish and sediment) collected in 2014 and 2016 from the Faroe-Shetland Channel and Rosemary Bank Seamount. These data could be used to provide a baseline against which any changes can be assessed in the event of an oil spill and contribute to any environmental impact assessment. Concentrations in all samples were low, often below the detection limits, and were typical of reference sites. Sponges can be used as an alternative indicator species to mussels for monitoring PAHs in the marine environment as they can accumulate PAHs from both the dissolved and particulate phase. PAH concentrations in marine sponges from Scottish waters have not previously been reported. Concentrations were low, but contained a higher proportion of heavier 4- to 6-ring PAHs compared to the fish samples.
[en] We report the first trans phosphinoboration of internal alkynes. With an organophosphine catalyst, alkynoate esters and the phosphinoboronate PhP-Bpin are efficiently converted into the corresponding trans‐α‐phosphino‐β‐boryl acrylate products in moderate to good yield with high regio‐ and Z‐selectivity. This reaction operates under mild conditions and demonstrates good atom economy, requiring only a modest excess of the phosphinoboronate. X‐ray crystallography experiments allowed structural assignment of the unprecedented and densely functionalized (Z)‐α‐phosphino‐β‐boryl acrylate products. (© 2020 Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH and Co.
