[en] This state of art report was dealt with the recent progress of genetic engineering techniques and prospect of gene manipulation. Especially the selection of new genetic marker genes such as variants to environmental stress, pest or insect resistance, herbicide resistance and nutritional requirement was reviewed by using plant cell and tissue culture combined with radiation mutation induction. Biotechnology has taken us from the era hybrid plants to the era of transgenic plants. Although there are still many problems to solve in transformation method and the regeneration of transformed cell and tissue. [en] Since the mid-1980, COSS (Computerized Operator Support System) has been developed in the world to improve the operational safety through supporting operators to monitoring and diagnosis of plant. However there is a few of studies associated with development of COSS in our country. These are moreover not aimed at the application to NPP or the experimental by simulator, but the studies of technologies. Therefore, to apply of the function of computerized operator aids to NPP, the design policy for COSS should be established in advance by reviewing the state of art and its application. In this study we viewed the state-of-the-art of COSS and its application and identified the design consideration for computerized operating procedures and operator advisory system by analyzing system characteristics and diagnosis techniques. And we presented the design direction and the design guidance for COSS of SMART (System-integrated Modular Advanced Reactor) based on the information and technologies analyzed through the state-of-the-art review. [en] The relationship between total alkaline phosphatase activity and bone forming lesion is a well known fact. But alkaline phosphatase consist mainly of two portion (liver, bone). To clarify the exact activity of bone forming tissue, quantitative measurement of BALP is essential. Two finds of tests were performed for their feasibility as a laboratory test (wheat germ lectin vs electrophoresis). We analyzed 40 bony lesion and got 58 samples. Lectin method was simple, economic, with reliable resproducability. Owing to the small number of test sample, we could not identify the relationship between the disease activity and measured BALP level. Further collection of clinical sample and analysis the pattern of BALP on each clinical settings. (author). 8 refs

[en] AMODS (Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Database System) which can be accessed with the URL http://amods.kaeri.re.kr consists of a computer system which is an Alpha workstation 600 with UNIX O/S and the APACHE 1.2 WWW server installed on an independently mounted file system of 4.3 GB. Currently the data in AMODS is mostly atom-related and consists of atomic spectral lines, atomic transition probabilities, atomic energy levels, atomic transition lines, and CODATA 86 as well as several reference data. Meanwhile spectroscopic parameter of Sm which is one of the rare earth elements, has been measured, resulting in production of 36 isotope shift data of the high-lying even parity states, followed by the measurement of autoionization states. New 31 autoionization states are found and energy levels of them are measured. The Fano's q parameters are determined through the theoretical analysis of the experimental data. The analyses were focused on the recommendations of the responsive direction of national policy in positive and effective manners in accordance with the changes of international nuclear affairs. This study also analyzed the creation of environmental foundation for effective implementation of the national policy and national R and D investment such as securing national consensus and openings of policy information to the public. The major results of the role and position of nuclear policy, trends of nuclear policy and nuclear R and D activities of USA, France, Japan, Asian developing countries etc. and international trends of small- and medium-sized reactor as well as spin-offs of nuclear R and D activities, were analyzed. [en] During stabilization of the 105-N Basin, sediments that have accumulated on 105-N Basin surfaces will be vacuumed, collected in the North Cask Pit of the basin complex, and eventually removed. The Environmental Assessment for the Deactivation of the N Reactor Facilities describes two potential disposition paths for the 105-N Basin sediment: transfer in slurry form to a double-shell tank if determined to be a transuranic waste, or disposal in solid form as a low-level waste. Interim storage of the sediments may be required if a transfer to the Tank Waste Remediation System cannot meet schedule milestones. Selection of a particular alternative depends on the final characterization of the accumulated sediment, regulatory requirements, cost/benefit analyses, and 105-N Stabilization Project schedule requirements. Revision 0 of this Data Quality Objectives (DQO) report was issued to describe a formal DQO process that was performed according to BHI-EE-01, Environmental Investigations Procedures, EIP 1.2, Data Quality Objectives, Revision 1. Since publication of Revision 0 of this report, important changes to the disposition strategy for 100-N Deactivation sediment material have been proposed, evaluated, discussed with the US Department of Energy and State of Washington Department of Ecology, and implemented. Revision 1 of this report documents these changes

[en] The authors have constructed a single ring to resonantly double an 18 watt Nd:YLF mode-locked laser and re-double the stored green to produce over 4 watts of power in the ultra-violet (UV). This laser is used to produce a beam of 470 MeV gamma-rays by Compton backscattering the laser beam from 2.8 GeV electrons stored in a synchrotron. Achieving high luminosity of the colliding beams requires very good mode quality and beam stability at the intersection point 22 meters from the laser. The ring consists of six mirrors, with two 25 cm radius of curvature mirrors enclosing each nonlinear crystal. The drive laser is a lamp-pumped Nd:YLF with a 50 ps bunch length at 76 MHz. A pointing stabilizer servo has been constructed as part of the infrared (IR) mode matching telescope. The IR to green conversion is accomplished in a 15 mm long non-critically phased matched LBO crystal located at a 40 micron waist, with an IR conversion efficiency of 70%. A stable, nearly diffraction limited UV beam of up to 4.2 watts is generated in a BBO crystal in the green storage ring. The output power is relatively independent of the efficiency of the LBO and BBO crystals. This fact makes it possible to reduce the amount of non-TEM00 modes created by walk-off of the UV by using relatively thin BBO crystals. At present, however, the lower bound on the BBO thickness is limited by the loss of conversion efficiency at high power
