AbstractAbstract
[en] Data processing system of personnel exposure was developed at PNC Tokai Works. This system consists of host and terminal computer system with four character displays. Data multi-check system and ease of operation were considered in the design of this system. This system has two main functions: The first is the storage of all personnel exposure data in PNC and the second is the semi-automatic processing of thermoluminescence values measured by manual TLD readers. All TL elements in the TLD badges for whole body exposure and the finger rings for extremity exposure are measured by three manual TLD readers and simultaneously the results are sent to computer system by means of three character displays. This system is available to the applications for the national registration center. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The prophylactic use of stable iodine is one of the protective measures during a nuclear emergency. In order to know the resultant radiation dose to the thyroid gland and the effectiveness of iodine prophylaxis in the case of Japanese, a sensitivity analysis was performed for related physiological parameters for Japanese. As a result, the variances in the deposition efficiency of radioactive iodine aerosol in the respiratory tract due to changes in the respiratory parameters were found rather small between the standard Caucasian and Japanese. The changes due to the radioactive iodine aerosol size were more significant, suggesting the importance of understanding the physico-chemical status of aerobic radioiodine released in a nuclear emergency. Concerning the metabolic parameters of iodine, the result of the sensitivity analysis based on an iodine metabolic model showed that the most critical parameters are those which describe the transport of stable and radioactive iodine from the blood compartment to the thyroid gland. Accordingly, a confirmation of the transport model and the related parameters for Japanese are essential to clarify the effectiveness of iodine prophylaxis to reduce thyroid gland exposure of Japanese. AbstractAbstract
[en] The DBM (Discrimination Bias Modulation) method is one of electronic energy weighting techniques for carrying out the Spectrum-Dose conversion automatically. In the DBM method, the energy weighting is performed by passing the energetic pulses through the comparator (discriminator) of which the bias is modulated by a function wave. In an original circuit, it was difficult to reduce the energy weighting error to less than +-5%, since the generated waveforms were not so accurate. Here, by using a Programmable Read Only Memory (PROM) for storing and for generating the waveforms, its error has been reduced to one tenth of the original one, and accurate operation of better than +-0.5% has been attained in the range from 100 keV to 3 MeV. In addition to the above, the reproducibility and the stability have been much improved, and the adjusting and testing processes of the function waveforms have been extremely simplified. (author)
