AbstractAbstract
[en] The differential cross section of elastic and inelastic scattering of 3He on 13C at 37.9 MeV was measured. The optical potential parameters were obtained by fitting the angular distribution for the elastic scattering and were used in the microscopic analysis of the levels 3.09 (1/2+) MeV, 3.68 (3/2-) MeV, 3.85 (5/2+) MeV, 7.55 (5/2-) MeV, 8.84 (1/2-) MeV, and 11.85 (7/2+) MeV. A strong dependence of the absolute value of the differential cross section on the microscopic interaction parameters (whose radial dependence was of the Yukawa type) was observed, both for the central and spin-dependent terms. Although the majority of the low-lying levels of 13C exhibit a collective behavior, the microscopic description using simple wave functions is satisfactory, and a good agreement with the experiment can even be achieved by a final fitting of the microscopic interaction parameters

AbstractAbstract
[en] The radiocarbon method and the thermoluminescence method are the most important tools in age estimation of cultural objects. From among radioanalytical methods, activation analysis and various forms of X-ray fluorescence analysis are employed most frequently in the examination of historical objects. The potential and limitations of the methods are described and demonstrated on selected examples of objects of art. In addition, the conception and objectives are outlined of the Laboratory of Quantitative Methods for Examination of Historical Heritage, which is being created by cooperation of three faculties of the Czech Technical University, viz., the Faculty of Nuclear Science and Physical Engineering, the Faculty of Architecture, and the Faculty of Civil Engineering. At the first stage, this Laboratory will apply thermoluminescence dating and X-ray fluorescence analysis methods

[en] The mission of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) is highlighted, and WANO's Peer Review programme is described. At the Dukovany nuclear power plant, a Peer Review was undertaken in December 1997. The results gave evidence of a good level of safety, reliability and culture of operation of the plant. (P.A.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The company manufactures all types of scintillation detectors and detection units for the spectrometry and detection of alpha, beta, gamma, X and neutron radiation. Plastic scintillators and NaI(Tl) and CsI(Tl) single crystal based scintillation detectors constitute the largest share in the company's production range. The crystal detectors cover the size region from 10 mm to 180 mm in diameter, with full, well-type, or transversally drilled crystals. Also manufactured are ZnS(Ag) based scintillators for alpha radiation, combined scintillators for alpha/beta detection, scintillation chambers for radon measurements, and fast and slow neutron detectors. Light pulsers for stabilization of the electronic measuring lines are included in the production range as well

[en] Czech studies of uranium miners in the Jachymov region cover the 1970-1995 period and include nearly 900 cases of lung cancer which developed within 40 years. The role of the Czech cohort studies is demonstrated in the light of current knowledge of the effects of radiation and regulation principles in radiological protection

[en] The Radiation Protection Department at the Dukovany nuclear power plant is among important factors securing safe and reliable plant operation. The responsibilities of the Department include (i) radiological monitoring and control of the plant operation; (ii) dosimetric personnel monitoring and control; and (iii) radiological monitoring of the plant surroundings. The nuclear power plant has been achieving very good results in radiological protection, matching well those of NPPs in industrially developed countries, and the operation of the plant has been reliable and safe
