AbstractAbstract
[en] This section of the report is concerned with the study of the metallisation, oxidation and doping of materials which are of importance to the micro-electronics industry. The Van de Graaff accelerator and radioactive tracers are used for studying surface and sub-surface behaviour of these materials

AbstractAbstract
[en] The aim of this work was to study the influence of degree of cold deformation and heat treatments on both phase state and defect states in Fe-Mn alloys with manganese concentrations 5%, 10% and 15%. The Moessbauer effect and positron annihilation techniques have been used. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The neutron structure factor for SiO2 glass at 22.0+-0.50C was determined in the range of Q, 1.0-25.5 A-1, by means of the time-of-flight (TOF) neutron diffraction method using the electron linear accelerator (LINAC). An analysis of neutron and X-ray diffraction data was carried out by using a general procedure of analysis of structure factors based on a theoretical viewpoint of liquids. Excellent agreement between the calculated structure factor curves and the observed ones over the whole range of Q has ascertained that the structure of SiO2 glass can be explained as a liquid-like structure which is an aggregate of randomly packed clusters consisting of five SiO2 'molecules'. Within the cluster one central 'molecule' is tetrahedrally surrounded by four peripheral 'molecules' with a random orientation about the Si-O bond direction. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A Moessbauer spectroscopic study is reported on a series of titanium-substituted hematites, (Fesub(1-x)Tisub(x))2O3 with x<0.025. It is found that, even in powder samples, Ti influences the Morin transition (Tsub(M)) quite strongly. One percent of Ti is enough to depress Tsub(M) below 10 K and this is likely true for a homogeneous sample with 0.5% of Ti too. The magnetic ordering temperature lowers with Ti-content. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A method for determining cubic stiffness constants from polcrystalline Young's modulus and X-ray elastic constants is described. The relations used among these elastic constants are those based on Kroener's quasiisotropic model. The X-ray elastic constants required [s1(hkl)] are obtained by measuring various (hkl) d spacings of a stressed specimen under symmetric THETA-2THETA scan mode. An application to an Fe-31Ni alloy has given the results: C11=1.47, C12=1.05 and C44=1.24x1011 Pa. (orig.)
