AbstractAbstract
[en] Based on the successful manufacture of high quality superconductors in melt processes, the main objectives of this project were the optimization of existing processes towards higher production rates and enhanced reproducibility and the investigation of alternative, productive processes. Numerical simulations of both macroscopic thermal fields and microstructure evolution were used to optimize melt texturing especially in batch processes and laser zone melting setups. Reactive precursors were investigated as an alternative process technology. Especially a regular geometric arrangement of these precursors allowed for texturing of thick films in simple isothermal conditions. Reactive materials moreover turned out to be most suitable for superconducting soldered joints of superconductive components. The results of this project - especially the use of a multiphase substrate material - open up a variety of perspectives for a low cost and robust production technology for thick film coated conductors. Aufbauend auf der erfolgreichen schmelzmetallurgischen Herstellung hochtemperatursupraleitenden Massivmaterials mit angwendungsrelevanten Eigenschaften bestand die Zielsetzung des Vorhabens in der Optimierung bekannter Verfahren in Richtung hoehere Produktivitaet sowie der Untersuchung alternativer, produktiver Verfahrensansaetze. Numerische Simulationen sowohl der Temperaturverteilung als auch der Gefuegeentwicklung wurden durchgefuehrt zur Verbesserung bekannter Schmelzexturierungsverfahren in Hinblick auf verkuerzte Prozessdauer und Reproduzierbarkeit. Die Ergebnisse dieser Berechnungen fuehrten zur Optimierung der Parameter bei gleichzeitiger Herstellung mehrerer Proben in batch-Prozessen sowie insbesondere des Laserzonenschmelzens. Die Verwendung reaktiver Ausgangsmaterialien bildete einen alternativen Ansatz zur Erzielung erhoehter Wachstumsraten. Insbesondere eine regelmaessige geometrische Anordnung der Substanzen fuehrte zur kontrollierten Herstellung texturierter Dickschichten in einfachen, isothermen Verfahren. Darueberhinaus wurden mit reaktiven Ausgangssubstanzen supraleitende Loetverbindungen zwischen supraleitenden Komponenten hergestellt. Die im Rahmen des Vorhabens gewonnenen Erkenntnisse - insbesondere die Verwendung mehrphasigen Substratmaterials - bieten vielfaeltige Perspektiven zur Herstellung biaxial texturierten Leitermaterials in robusten, produktiven und kostenguenstigen Verfahren. [en] Preparation of different grades of zirconia from zircon have been investigated. Zircon sand was thermally dissociated in a non-transferred extended arc in flight thermal plasma reactor. Plasma dissociated zircon (PDZ) was leached to recover zirconia. Alkali leaching of PDZ resulted in refractory grade zirconia whereas acid leaching yielded high pure zirconia. [en] The growth of NaLa(WO4)2 crystals has been carried out by hydrothermal method at fairly low P-T conditions. The crystal morphology has been studied with respect to the growth parameters. AbstractAbstract
[en] Various annealing methods for sol-gel films have been investigated. Thermal, photothermal, RTP and excimer laser annealing have been used to convert sol-gel precursor films into oxidic films. RTP annealing of sol-gel films yields better results than classical thermal annealing or excimer laser irradiation. Photochemical effects during RTP annealing contribute to obtain high-quality oxide films. The various annealing methods are illustrated by the annealing of alkoxide precursor films of tantalum, iron, nickel and yttrium

AbstractAbstract
[en] High oxygen pressures have been achieved in a piston-cylinder apparatus using a double capsule assembly consisting of a sealed outer Au capsule, containing an oxygen source (KMnO4), and an inner, open Pt capsule containing the sample. Using this technique, La2CuO4 was annealed at 800 degree C, 5--25 kbar for 2--4 h. Transposed temperature drop calorimetry at 704 degree C was used to determine the enthalpy of oxidation, and weight loss measurements characterized the oxygen nonstoichiometry, δ, in La2CuO4+δ, in the high-pressure, oxygen annealed samples. For samples analyzed at room temperature, x-ray diffraction measurements show that beyond δ∼0.10--0.13, additional oxygen is accommodated in a perovskite-like LaCuO3-α phase. An analysis of the thermochemical measurements indicates that the nature of holes in La2CuO4+δ could change in the range of δ∼0.03--0.06.16,17 It is further suggested that the observed change in the thermochemical behavior in the range of δ∼0.01--0.06 could be the driving influence behind the spinodal decomposition of La2CuO4+δ at low temperatures (Dabrowski et al.10)
