AbstractAbstract
[en] A discussion of research activities designed to broaden the array of methods available for elemental trace analysis with application of nuclear reactions induced by charged particles is presented. An additional objective has been the study of methods for localizing impurities based on the energy dependent penetration of charged particles. This is being complemented with recently initiated studies on novel techniques based on very short-lived nuclides and detection methods other than counting. (3 figures, 4 tables) (U.S.)

Proceedings of an international conference on welding research related to power plant. Held at the University of Southampton, 17-21 September 1972
AbstractAbstract
[en] The development of a bore welding technique that has been applied in the production of boilers for nuclear power stations is discussed. After a description of the weld geometry and the basic welding process, the discussion covers the work necessary to establish the welding parameters and the associated development of welding torches and welding programme controllers. An account is given of some methods that have been employed to overcome certain metallurgical/welding process problems together with the development of non-destructive testing techniques. (author)

[en] The use of 99/sup m/Tc-albumin microspheres to assess the pulmonary circulation has important clinical utility. Particle distribution of injected microspheres accurately reflects regional pulmonary distribution. The value of this diagnostic technique in patients with pulmonary edema, lung neoplasms, and congenital cardiac malformations is emphasized. (U.S.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A method has been developed for calculating the biological equivalent dose distribution for pion beams which is computationally simple enough to be used in routine treatment planning. Dose distributions calculated for the irradiation of simple target volumes using a conventional single port rectangular beam geometry and using a multiport cylindrical geometry which approximates the configuration of the Stanford pion channel illustrate the inherent advantages of the multiport irradiation in decreasing the entrance dose and in reducing variations in the pion star fraction L(pion star dose/total dose) across the target volume. It is also shown that by scanning in two dimensions the dose distribution can be made to conform to an arbitrary target volume
