Description
The α-decay chain of two SHN, 294118 and 294117 formed through 249Cf+48Ca and 249Bk+48Ca respectively, and their derivatives upto Z>110. The BE/A is calculated using the droplet-model mass formula fit by Myers and Swateki. The nucleon BE are calculated using empirical formulae. The K.E., Eα(cal), is calculated and is compared with the experimental values of Oganessian et al. and obtained a very close agreement. It is understood that α-decay probability is much higher since εp and ε2p are very smaller than the energy required to separate 1n and 2n. Hence the probability of formation of α-particle inside the nucleus is very high. Also the εn is almost same as the BE/A, indicates the nuclei studied will readily decay into their derivatives instantly of their formation. It is reported by Oganessian et al. that 286114 is having 50/50 possibility of α-decay and SF and the decay mode of 282112 is SF. From the calculation it is obtained that the α-decay half life, log10T1/2(α)=-1.5483 and log10T1/2(SF)=-1.1264 for 286114, which shows almost the equal probability of α-decay and SF. And for the nucleus 282112, the log10T1/2(α)=-0.39073 and log10T1/2(SF)=-3.68867, and which shows the nucleus readily undergoes SF than α-decay. The coincidence of this prediction with experiment suggests that extension of this work for further nuclei will support much in the discovery of new superheavy elements
