Determination of traces of uranium in soil/sediment samples by alpha spectrometry by selective separation of iron and uranium

Description
During these work traces of uranium in soil/sediment sample was determined by selective separation of uranium from mixed hydroxide precipitate. The separation was carried by controlling the redox potential by using a mixture HNO3 and H2O2. The concentration of the uranium observed in the soil samples was 200 - 600 ppb whereas in sediment samples the concentration range was 61- 400 ppb. The observed recovery of uranium in case of spiked sample found to be 80-90%. (author)
