Description

The paper provided an analysis of risks related to radioactive and toxic waste from decommissioning of multipurpose nuclear submarines and the need for securing environmental safety in the North-Western Region of Russia in 2003. Studies of radiation risk to personnel and population during dismantling of nuclear submarines are provided. Chemical risks in dismantling of nuclear submarines have been assessed. Comparative analysis of radiation and chemical risks is done along with conclusions for joint international efforts for dismantlement of nuclear submarines.
