Description

A comparison of barrier - torches discharge (BTD) and torch discharge (TD), both driven at atmospheric pressure (RF generator, frequency 13.56 [MHz]) is presented. The BTD uses the nozzle coated with quartz and the working gas (argon) flows through the nozzle. The discharge is powered via outer electrode. In case of the TD the working gas flowing through the metallic nozzle with the sharp edge stabilizes the plasma channel. Optical emission spectroscopy, together with measurement of basic electrical parameters, was applied. It was found that vibrational and rotational temperatures in the BTD are nearly 2 times higher that in the TD. (author)
