Description

Knowledge of neutron physics quantities plays an important role in development of nuclear energy, national security and nuclear astrophysics applications. Measurements of thermal neutron capture cross sections (σ0) and resonance integrals (I0) of most nuclides are currently necessary for the calculations of neutron transport, assessments of reactor safety, investigations of high burn-up core characteristics, decay heat power predictions and for nuclear transmutation studies. Thermal cross sections for thermal neutrons and resonance integrals for epithermal neutrons (from cadmium cut-off energy 0.5 eV to 0.1 MeV) can be determined experimentally by two methods, which are the oscillation and activation methods
