Description
The automated sipping technique has been acknowledged as a useful tool in keeping the radiation level in the primary circuit as low as possible. Visual inspections carried out on fuel assemblies and other core components provide feedback on operating performance. Ultrasonic testing of fuel rods and the highly automated fuel reconstitution procedure reduce the number of service personnel required on site. Checking the structural integrity of reactor control cluster assemblies (RCCAs), especially with a view to friction wear marks and absorber-induced swelling, has become a main objective of the surveillance program.
