PLC-based digital systems for radiation monitoring in nuclear objectives

  • 1. Institute for Nuclear Research, Pitesti, (Romania)

Description

The paper presents a system for radiation measurement using PLC equipment connected in a serial RS-485 network. Measuring operation is based on the use of "all-range" CI-MI522 detectors designed and manufactured in ICN Pitesti, which provides a current signal. Near the detector the primary signal processing block is located, which consists of a preamplifier, a current-frequency amplifier converter and a high voltage source polarizing the detector. This paper proposes a solution for measuring the gamma radiation level by creating a hardware and software architecture based on the S7-300 industrial PLC platform with high performance in industrial data acquisition and processing.
