Problems of operational radiation protection in nuclear medicine : a comprehensive survey

Radiation protection for the three different groups exposed in nuclear medicine - the patients, the workers and the members of the public - is reviewed. With regard to the patients the concepts of justification and optimization are explained. The radiation protection practices, organization and equipment for the protection of the staff are described. Workplace and individual radiation monitoring are discussed and the results of monitoring the exposure of workers in the German Democratic Republic are presented. Sources of exposure of members of the public are outlined. The national organization for, and the implementation of, radiation protection in the German Democratic Republic are summarised. 11 refs., 16 figs
