Description

The value of certified reference materials for assessing the quality of analyses performed has been recognized worldwide by analytical chemists. The certified values for chemical composition of reference materials are usually derived from results generated by two or more independent and reliable measurement methods. The role of spectroscopic techniques namely atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS) and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) in certification of reference materials has been described. The application of these techniques for the determination of trace level impurities in reference materials has been compared and discussed. (author) 5 figs
