Technology and equipment for vitrification of radioactive wastes from the A-1 nuclear power plant

  • 1. Ustav Jaderneho Vyzkumu CSKAE, Rez (Czechoslovakia)

Description

Problems associated with the processing of wastes arising during or after accidents in nuclear power plants are discussed. Particular attention is paid to the treatment of radioactive wastes from the Bohunice A-1 nuclear power plant, with emphasis on advances in the processing technologies. Conditions of hydrogen formation during the vitrification treatment are given and methods for preventing this hydrogen from ignition are outlined. A conception is put forward for building up a transportable vitrificaton unit. (author). 4 figs., 3 tabs., 10 refs
