Study of nuclei in continuum via electromagnetic and particle decay modes

  • 1. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay (India). Nuclear Physics Div.

Description

Many special features of nuclear structure are exhibited at high excitation energies, a full understanding of which is far from being complete. Some examples of these are the giant collective vibrations built on the excited states, the occurrence of highly deformed shapes and exotic structures etc. Investigation of the nuclear structure in continuum is, in fact, one of the most current field of research having many promises and challenges. This article will illustrate a few examples of this by discussing some of the recent experimental results. 43 refs., 9 figs
