Quality control of gamma spectrometry measurements

Quality control (QC) plays an important role in gamma spectrometry measurements and includes all technical activities that measure the attributes and performance of this process. To ensure the quality control of the equipment used for gamma spectrometry measurements were monitored detector background, detector efficiency, peak shape and peak drift. For each parameter monitored were set the warning and acceptance limits were set. The background of detector was evaluated for gross contamination using a short counting interval. The efficiency calibration and energy calibration were checking by using a calibration source containing a single radionuclide (Cs-137) and the total activity of this source, the average peak shift, the average FWHM ratio and FWTM (full width at tenth maximum) for CS-137 photopeak were monitored. The stored results were analyzed and the study indicates that the measurement system has a considerable stability and illustrates the accuracy and precision of the measurements. (author).
