Description
The application of high-voltage electrodes of altered design to cylindrical ozonizers creates new potential for obtaining higher efficiency of an ozone formation process. The paper presents a comparison of operation conditions and results obtained with the application of various types of ozone generating apparatuses. Cylindrical ozonizers have been tested and corona, mixed, and silent discharges have been generated there. That has been realized in the following arrangements: wire-cylinder, helix-cylinder of varied winding closeness, and cylinder-cylinder with various discharge gap sizes taken into account. Influence of specific energy density on the obtained ozone concentration depending on the discharge gap size. Ozone concentrations obtained at the same specific energy value have been compared as well as ozone production volume obtained in a time unit and unit energy consumption for ozone generation as a function of its concentration. It has been found that the new design of an inner high-voltage electrode brings about a change in the discharge character and influences the course of an ozone synthesis process. The obtained shape of Lissajou curves indicates mixed character of discharges in an ozonizer with a helix electrode. This type of a high-voltage electrode produces a kind of an intermediate discharge type - between a corona discharge and a silent discharge. When an ozonizer is fed with oxygen the highest ozone concentration can be obtained with electrodes of a medium number of windings per a length unit. In the same conditions but when an ozonizers is fed with air the highest ozone concentration can be obtained with electrodes of the biggest number of windings. (author)
