Defect recovery in FCC metals irradiated with 0.5-126 MeV energetic ions

Description
FCC metals (Al, Cu, Ni, Ag and Pt) are irradiated with 0.5-126 MeV energetic ions at <10 K. After irradiations, thermal annealing experiments are performed up to 300 K. In Al, Ni and Pt irradiated with ∝100 MeV heavy ions, the fraction of stage-I recovery is anomalously reduced or completely disappears. This result shows that in these metals the energy transferred from excited electrons to lattice atoms through the electron-phonon interaction contributes to the annihilation of stage-I defects during irradiations
